    Description

    This gorgeous embroidered table runner and 4 place mats was purchased in Syria in the 1980's. The fabric is a semi-transparent,  stiff, finely woven organza, and the embroidery is traditional Syrian "Aghabani". The beautiful designs are embroidered in 2 different shades of gold and a small amount of metallic silver thread, and a bright red silk thread. The runner measures 28 1/2 by 15 1/4 inches, and the mats 15 1/4 by 11 1/2 inches. There are some loose threads mostly on the edges, but most noticeably in a silver thread area on the runner - see closeup. There is also a very pale yellow stain - see last color enhanced photo.
